Back to School with Clear Backpacks
46Back to School
It is always very comforting to me when I see something that just makes so much sense. Most of the school districts in my area have implemented a new policy making Clear Backpacks the only acceptable backpacks.
The decision was made despite the grumblings of students who claimed that this would violate their privacy and I am glad the schools stuck to the decision to place safety first and foremost. From a parents perspective I think that this decision will make all the difference in the world to the majority of kids. With the clear backpacks now mandatory it is less likely that some of the kids will be able to carry and conceal contraband into our schools.
Clear Backpacks
Manufactures understand the desires of the children to have trendy and up to date products. They also understand the importance of trying to keep the schools safe. Bag Republic and many other companies have worked hard to come up with completely functional and trendy Clear Backpacks for this years students.
From Toy Story and Disney Princess themes to the more mature single color trimmed bags it really is easy to find one that any student would be happy to carry.
School Safety
Taking a backward look over the past several years should surely convince everyone whose children attend public schools that this policy will help to protect our children. No longer will some children be able to carry drugs and weapons concealed in their backpacks. While I do understand that children can be very resourceful and if they have the will they will find a way, however the schools taking this stand will go a long way to curtailing such illegal activity.
Privacy Issues
While I understand that this is not something new to a lot of people, Mandated Clear Backpacks is something new to parents and students alike in my neck of the woods. I have found instances of clear backpack policies in schools dating as far back as 2004 and implemented in reaction to the Columbine School Shooting in April of 1999.
This policy has been upheld in nearly every instance.

I think this is a great idea. Thanks for writing about it.
Great idea, I hadn't heard about it, but I'll be looking for them in the hallways come fall. It'll be here before I know it! K
These look a great idea
I agree as well, didn't have those when i was a kid.
Well kids, looks like you'll have to hide those cells somewhere other than your bag lol
Great write up.
What stops kids from bringing things in their purses, wallets, or pockets? I just don't think its very nice to have a girl's tampons in a clear bag for all to see. :( That's kind of embarrassing for those who are newly adolescents or developing. Its sad that it has to come to this. :( Good write up though!

There should be rules those help school management to keep a watch on students. That would help a lot, the Clear Back Pack.
