Delaware Coastal Vacations
56Delaware Coastal Vacation
Delaware is situated on the East Coast of the United States of America. That fact can be a little deceptive for people who think that it’s entire eastern boarder is the Atlantic coast. The reality is that although the eastern boarder of the state is all water only twenty five miles or so is actually the Atlantic. A larger portion of the states watery coast is actually the shoreline of the Delaware Bay.
The Delaware bay is the outlet to the Atlantic for The Delaware River. The fresh river water mixes with the altantic salt water for many miles along the Delaware coastline. Delaware Bay is the first site classified in the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network.
Hubtrail The Delaware coast
My ties to Delaware, and it's coastal attractions are not that of a native Delawarean as I was born in Pennsylvania. They are also not that of a current resident as I no longer live there. I did however live in Smyrna De. for eleven years and it is where I grew up.
Smyrna is about 60 miles northwest of the Atlantic coastline and day trips were a frequent part of life.
Cape Henlopen State Park
At the northern most tip of the Atlantic coast line is Cape Henlopen State Park. This park offers a wide range of accommodations and activities and amenities. Amenities include two beaches, Bike Trails, Boat Rental, Campgrounds, Day Use, Fishing Pier, Nature Trails and so much more.
If you are interested in learning more about Cape Henlopen visit the Delaware State Parks home page at http://www.destateparks.com/
Rehoboth Beach
Many of my earliest fond memories are of Rehoboth. Playing in the sand and water was about the greatest thing in the world to me as a child. The boardwalk shops with all the exitng and new things to see were like being in a whole new world to me.
Rehoboth De. a little one mile square town on the east coast of De. It is a thriving little beach resort community that offers a spectacular array of things to do year round. Being a beach resort has not hampered the communities ability to be a great place to vacation any time.for more information in Rehoboth have a look at their website at http://www.cityofrehoboth.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.visitors
Dewey and Bethany Beaches
A little further south along the Atlantic coast line is where you will find Dewey Beach and Bethany Beach. These beaches are less traveled than the two mentioned above but in my mind are even more spectacular than the others because they are less traveled. The towns of Dewey and Bethany have chosen to remain small town USA. if you find yourself at either of these beaches (which I highly recommend) you will find yourself in the company of many great locals just out for a day of R&R at the water.

I have never been there. I liked the way you described it and as I was reading I could picture in my head, a coastline in a bay area. It was cool. Thank you again. :)
I currently live in Dover, DE. The beaches are still a great place to visit. I visit Rehoboth Beach often, because it's only 30 minutes from me. I also like going to Rehoboth to shop. There a large shopping outlet in Rehoboth too.
Very nice work Ohma. I need to add this to my list!!! The beaches look fantastic.
Nice Job. I knew little of Delaware
Hi Ohma . I used to live in Virginia Beach when I was a kid 100 years ago. And I have to say the presentation for the Delaware beaches does indeed look enticing.Rehoboth beach in particular. But now I live in San Diego not to far from the beach and it's not awful. Thanks for the tour !
A fascinating introduction to a place I know practically nothing about. Thanks
Love and peace

Hi Ohma.. this hub makes me want to go on a vacation ;0)
Thanks for sharing it with us
I like going to different places.. you ahve given such a useful information about this place.. thanks for sharing..
Just finished writing a hub about Fun Summer Activities in Cape Henlopen State Park and your hub popped up in the sidebar so I came to read it. You did a great review of our Delaware Beaches and I like the fact that you included links.
The main avenue in Rehoboth has been totally renovated and has a new bandstand. The new streetscape took 3 years to complete but it was worth the long wait and "construction pains". I think the town is more beautiful than ever. Thanks for promoting Delaware tourism.
