Hubtrails
70Hubtrails
Hubtrails is about wherever the trail in life has taken you.
Whatever beautiful, fun, or fantastic, place you have enjoyed and want to spread the word about. Whether it is where they grew up, live now or have vacationed too one thing is for certain The writers at HubPages like to write about the places they have been
As amazing as it may sound people really do want to read about places they may never get to visit and the things they may never get to see. To that end the Hubtrail Project is designed to give everyone the opportunity to share the joys they have experienced in their hometown, or favorite corner of the world.
A great number of writers here at HubPages have been doing this for years so what is new?
Hubtrails is new!
The co-op of many writers joining together to create an insiders view of the places they know about first hand, one little piece at a time. Hubber's from around the world have joined this project and participating is easy.
How do I join?
What do I do.
How do I join? What do I do?
Wait you are getting ahead of yourself. First some important information about this project.
- The absolutely great Hubber Marisa Wright has purchased a domain and created a fabulous site to help promote Hubtrails! http://hubtrailtravelguide.com
Unbelievable - UrbanChaos has created a Wikipage to host the project. http://hubtraveler.wikispaces.com/ Nice Job! (No longer Available)
- Sufidreamer and Habee have been working very hard to contact as many others as they can to join. How cool is that?
- Sunforged has offered his technical assistance and marketing know how to help promote Hubtrails. Yeah!
- Cagsil has been helping with organization and ideas via e-mail. Wow!
- And last but not least by any means all the great writers that have joined the project, they are the ones that have made it possible.
- NEW 5-1-10 Everyone we have a new addition to the hubtrail team. Arthur Fontes has agreed to be the map keeper for the project. He is going to get with Jason on how they think it best be handled and we will let you know the process if an for inclusion on the map. I think it will not involve any additional work for anyone but Arthur Fontes and boy has he stepped up to take on a Huge Job! Yeah Arthur!
- NEW 5-8-10 Hubber Haunty has created a great site to support Hubtrail. have a look everyone. http://hubable.com/ this community is just full of so many really great people!
Now.. How do I join? What do I do?
The very first thing you will need to do, if you haven't already is Join HubPages. If this is already done then participating in the project is as easy as 1-2-3-4-5
1. Write a totally unique hub or hubs about your corner of the world. Hubbers who already have hubs that they wish to include Jump to step 2.
2. Place the tag hubtrail into the hub. this will include it in the RSS feed that will be used for RSS submission sites and this feed should be included on every hub intended for the project.
3.The websites being used to promote the project separate the hubs into continent pages. In order for your hub to be included in the correct area of the website you will need to include the following tags.
hubtrail-your continent
hubtrail-your country
hubtrail-your city
hubtrail
The purpose of these tags is to assist in promotion and are very important to the project.
4. Include the RSS Feed
- Go into 'Edit Hub'
- At the top right, where you add text, picture and Amazon capsules, there is one for RSS. Add it.
- Open the capsule by pressing edit, just as you do with text capsules.
- Enter a title - something like 'Hubtrail' hubs
- Where it says 'Feed Url' enter:
- http://hubpages.com/tag/HubTrail/hot/?rss or
- http://hubpages.com/tag/HubTrail/best/?rss
- There is a little drop down menu saying 'number of Hubs to display' - set this to 8.
- For display method, set to first sentence.
- Save the capsule, check that 8 Hubs appear, and you are done editing!
5. Publish your hub!
******* Please remember that although google will see all of the tags in your hub. HubPage feed only sees the first 15. If you have more than 15 tags in your hub, and the Hubtrail tags are not among the first 15 they will not be included in the feed.
Other tags
other tags such as hubtrails-alberta or Hubtrails-Pennsylvania can also be used if you choose to to help narrow the feed even further. these feeds can the be used on your capstone hubs for the country. such as I have done on my Capstone for Pennsylvania http://hubpages.com/hub/Hubtrails-Touring-Pennsylvania these tags can be used but are not required for your hub to be included in the project.
The tag currently being used Hubtrail-capstone is no longer required and again I apologize for the changes but they are being made in the best interest of the project from a promotional stand point.

Oh a couple of other Good News Items.
Maddie Ruud HubPages Staffer Extraordinaire has been waiting patiently for the project coordinators to get our ducks in a row so she could include the Project in the Official HubPage Blog.
and
On a lesser note I have been attempting to improve my computer know how and this project gave me the perfect opportunity to start the creation of my own site. http://hubtrailtraveler.weebly.com/ it is a free site and not so ambitious as Marisa's undertaking but it will provide backlinks for the project and we all know how much GOOGLE loves backlinks.

Hey Ohma, excellent hub. I have sent you email. I am almost done with my hub on America. If you get a chance, shoot me an email with all listed links you have for Canada and Americas, that includes South America and Central America. Since Marisa went with Americas, I'm working on the Capstone for all of them. I'm creating a smaller directory, similar to the website, but not going global. It is a really great hub and thank you so much for starting it, and I'll help however I can, whenever you need me. :)
this is a great idea...once I can capture some pictures from my little spot in the world...(and figure out all those instructions) I will definitely be participating.
Ohma, this is incredible! I've been away for a couple of weeks, and come back to see this. I'm very excited!!! Thank you for writing this hub to explain it all...I'll be editing my tags for a couple of my hubs. Happy trails to all!!!
ok I have read - I will start and try to follow - seems straight forward - I will begin with one hub - good luck with this sounds good but clear instructions for non techs like me is important.....Irish
Wonderful work Ohma and everyone else. I am glad to be part of such a stimulating project. All the best from a "downunder" hubber - well at heart even if I am in Asia at the moment.
good job and can I still join Ms Ohma? I have lots of hubs in the places I have traveled but I would like to start some for Dallas and the Philippines.
Ohma, is it "hubtrail" or "hubtrails" for part of the tag? I see "Hubtrail-Americas" but then "Hubtrails-Pennsylvania" - does the plural matter?
This will help anyone wanting to take part and hubbers like me to clarify a few points.
This is going to be hard work but fun and hopefully profitable. If I go astray please let me know lol
Count me in! I love writing about my wonderful country and have several new Hubs up my sleeve just waiting to be written.
Love and peace
Tony
I just dropped by again, to give the hub a boost. Rated it up! :) LOL!!!! *bump* :)
Hello again Ohma
Actually I would like to do a capstone on New Zealand!!! I have lots of ideas for it.
Please can you clarify - yes - sorry - some of the references say to use hubtrail and some hubtrails so that confuses me. Also is the order important because some instructions say - for example Canada - hubtrails and others
Hubtrail-Canada?
Great great work!! I am so excited to be part of the project.
yahoo that is groovy will read it later, too tired now.
Hmmmm... I lived in Turkey for 3 1/2 years, and Germany for 3 years. I was able to travel a fair bit. I have tons of pictures, but they would have to be scanned. I also have home videos, recently transferred to DVD. And tons of memories, right in the old noggin.
Being as computer challenged as I am, this is going to be hard, but I'm going to attempt it. This is a wonderful idea, I already have 2 hubs to add. And thanks to rebekahELLE for sharing this one with me.
Okay my hub doesn't appear, or at least I don't see it. I followed these steps, Go into 'Edit Hub'
At the top right, where you add text, picture and Amazon capsules, there is one for RSS. Add it.
Open the capsule by pressing edit, just as you do with text capsules.
Enter a title - something like 'Hubtrail' hubs
Where it says 'Feed Url' enter:
http://hubpages.com/tag/HubTrail/hot/?rss or
http://hubpages.com/tag/HubTrail/best/?rss
There is a little drop down menu saying 'number of Hubs to display' - set this to 8.
For display method, set to first sentence.
Save the capsule, check that 8 Hubs appear, and you are done editing! Where did I go wrong? This is actually a long response, feel free to deny it, but please let men know what to do to get my hub published on the site.
Oh, I was trying to put the one about Pasadena on there.
You have truly started a wonderful idea and I will try my best on the Canadian/Toronto work.
Bravo girl
Kimberly
and impressed
This is keeping you busy! Nice work Ohma!
Ohma, you did a great job on this hub and a round of applause on the tremendous contribution's by all the wonderful hubbers. I have rated up, bookmarked and hope to do be a contributor soon to hubtrails.
Sage
Ohma, great job on Hubtrails. I can't wait to join. I live up state New york and it is beautiful.
oops, forgot to tell you I will rate and bookmark.
Yes - Marissa has done an excellent job on the site. I had another look and was surprised to see my hub on Scenic Flying in New Zealand at the top. Nice warm and fuzzies! I've just subscribed.
Ohma, in some places you indicated to use "hubtrail", and others you referred to "hubtrails". Should it be singular, as in the RSS? If I write a series of hubs on Turkey, would I then need the tags "hubtrail", "hubtrail-Asia", and "hubtrail-Turkey"?
Hi Ohma - Hope that you are keeping well! Great news about Arthur taking on map duties :)
You are doing a great job - things are falling into place nicely!
Ohma, I'm pretty sure the point about tags is you can't use more than 15, period. Susana S was the person who worked it out.
Ohma and ALL participants - you should receive the hubber version of the nobel peace prize :) It was tough to get my hubs to 15 tags especially since hubtrail and hubtrail-usa always go to 14th and 15th in the tag list...Anyway, thanks again...
I love the initiative, I'll be joining in. I have a lot of hubs on France and a few on Italy, Spain and other countries so I will definitely take part in this.
Ok Ohma - I'll write a Portugal capstone. I have several others related to portugal and it's history. My beautiful adopted home deserves the world to view it through modern eyes ... it really isn't one of Europes poorer countries. It's probably the Jewel in Europe's crown, for many reasons :)
If I can be of any help too, please let me know. :) Just wanted to pipe up, since I haven't been spending time in the forums. :)
Consider it done Ohma, I'll head over and write one up. I will be directing the traffic to your Hubtrails Hub and not my Capstone on Americas, because I am not done with mine. I'll setup a Capstone Hubtrail Guide on RedGage, this way more than Hubtrail Hub will be viewed and I'll categorize them on RedGage too. No problem. :) Thank you again for everyone and their involvement...nice community unity. :)
Hey Ohma, I finished the blog on RedGage. :)
I just finished my first capstone. I hope I did everything right. I am enjoying this, I am off to create my second one. :-)
Thanks for posting these directions. I hope to write some hubtrails of Wyoming and Colorado soon. Well, soon is relative. Let's just say, they are on the docket.
Namaste.
thankyouthankyouthankyou for this terrific hub! it really helped me lots. rating it UP.
Wow, this sounds like a brilliant idea. I've read a couple of hubs that referenced Hubtrails and figured I had missed something. :( Hhmmmm, it's been a while since I traveled, however, this sounds like it is ongoing so, I'm bookmarking for future reference. Rating up for ya! Great Job! :)
Hi Ohma. Can I still join? I already have several hubs up and running about certain places here in my country. I'd like to link them to the hubtrail.
Thanks for this opportunity. I have entered Glastonbury to the hubtrail. I hope I have done this right?
Thanks Ohma. I'm glad to join. Sorry I was such a pain.
i will be joining as soon as i can ... still have major catching up to do
Sandy...
Wonderful idea! I loved it! I shall join and pitch in what I can. However, I will need sometime to organize myself. I promise to come up with something worth sharing. I´ll be in touch! Rated up! Bookmarked and Stumbled!
Warmest regards and infinite heavenly blessings,
Al
Dear Ohma, first of all I would like to thank you and Marissa for this initiative. I checked Marissa's Hubtrails page and looks amazing. I have a question, it is possible to include China as a subcategory? I have a Hub about two amazing spectacles that I saw on Hangzhou with original photos, that I would like to list in the Hubtrails if that is possible. I might be also able to write a few more.
Continue your good work and thanks for your sense of cyber community. Take care!
Hey Ohma, I saw this on the feed and felt I could help. Any hubs written for China would be under Asia Capstone, with the appropriate tags - hubtrail capstone and hubtrail china and hubtrail asia, providing it is a capstone hub. If it is not, then leave out the capstone tag and only use the other two.
That's how I do believe things are setup, as they are now. I hoped I helped. :)
Ohma and Cagsil thank you very much for your help. I will follow your advices. Take care you both.
Oh ohh..im failed to reach a 100% understanding of what is this about and how can i work on it! lol..i think the fact that i am not an english native contributed to my failure.. :p well, for sure i am interested to join the project but believe i just need to re-read this hub thoroughly..with patience! ;)
Excellent! I thought I'd leave a comment, while i'm down here, letting you know that I'm excited about hubtrails. New to-do list: 1) re-read hub to learn how i can be apart of hubtrails. 2) go read some more of your hubs...
Ohma, I was about to send this to someone who enquired about Hubtrails and then I realized it's not as clear as it should be for newbies.
Can I suggest you add a right-floated, highlighted text box giving the essential tags formats in a bulleted list?
Hi Ohma, a great informative hub. I have been off writing for some time. Blogging takes a lots of determination + perseverance. Now I am getting my act together and make writing a priority. Hubpages have changed a bit, but the same remains, so many helpful people and so many helpful tips......no one is alone, cheers.
Ohma, just another note. On the diagram it says that you should only use the continent tag on Capstone Hubs. If a Hub doesn't have a continent tag, it will never appear on my site.
Hi- as directed I have entered mine, thanks a lot.
Thanks,Please confirm if I have done it the way it should be.
Ohma, I have 5 hubs about when I did some volunteering in venezuela, but if I want to add them to hubtrails I need to write another hub about it, like an overview (the capstone) and then link all 5 hubs to that? Right? And then tag them properly and add an rss feed. Is there anything else?
Sorry, does the capstone have to be about venezuela as a whole (there aren't any other hubtrail hubs about venezuela) or can it just be an overview of the 5 hubs I already have, because they're only about a small part of Venezuela ... does that make sense?
I will try to add my two hubs on the Eastern Panhandle of WV and The Northern Shenandoah Valley in a bit.
Done! I hope that I did it right.
I already fixed that one too, but are the two links:
hei thanks Ohma..i'll definitely contact you via inbox.. :)
thanks for the instructions. Am still a bit fuzzy about it, but with a little trial and error and some good old ingenuity, I'm sure I can figure it out. Am definitely interested in joining the hubtrail grp. :)
O.K This is awesome since I have been back and forth across the United States like 7 times and have lived in 4 different ones - this will be an awesome thing for me to participate in :) Thanks for sharing in the forums _ I have been gone for awhile and glad to be back and catching up on things - See ya on the trail :)
This is very useful, I've bookmarked it, thank you!
Ohma, first of all a big THANK YOU for telling me about this! I have a question though: is there any limit to the number of hubtrail hubs a hubber can have? I ask this because I have a lot of hubs about Tenerife and have another account here for Tenerife Islander that only has hubs about Tenerife. Is it OK for me to make them all hubtrail entries by adding the hubtrail tags?
OK, that is brilliant and I know the drill so will get working on converting all my hubs that would fit as hubtrail ones by adding the tags and the RSS feeds!
Ohma, I added the tags into all my hubtrail hubs a few weeks ago. There's 5 of them about venezuela. I've added the rss feed to my hubs but I don't know if they're actually added, I don't think they would have appeared under 'latest' hubs because I actually wrote them about 9 months ago. Do I need to sign up to Marisa's site seperately and add them there as well?
I have double and triple checked all my tags and I can't work out why they are not appearing. I e-mailed you the links as well ... did you get it?
Thanx
Sounds like you all are having a great time. That's wonderful, good luck with your all's adventure.
I've only just found out about hubtrails .... and as I've been doing the hmts thing, combined with hubmobbing - and had a lot of historical location-based hubs already published, I guess it's a big job ahead of me now to go through and get them working.
Just added hubtrail tags and rss feed to one hub I wrote last week, then if I've done that right I'll do the rest.
Hubpages is so big these days.... all this stuff I find out about way too late!
I'm in now though :)
Phew.
Just one question - how does it work out where places are when so many places have duplicate names?
e.g. I am tagging hubpages-cornwall as a county in the UK (which is called greatbritain in tags, which is a slightly different place)? There's also a cornwall in ontario canada!
I've tagged up my travel hubs and inserted the rss feed.
Now just waiting to see if they pull through on any of the four sites listed above:
http://hubtrailtravelguide.com
http://hubtraveler.wikispaces.com
http://hubtrailtraveler.weebly.com
I've also spotted some inconsistencies in tags and what sites/people are doing.
One of those is pulling through hubtrail-greatbritain, another is using hubtrail-england, so I've used both. When I looked at other people's tags, some had (say) hubtrail-england, while others had "hubtrail england" (with a space). I figure having the space is probably wrong and the hyphen is required.
I think my biggest issue will be whether the tags appear in the first 15 or not. And whether I can do anything about that to make them appear near the top.
It's been two hours now, nothing's pulling through.... I'll give it 24 hours in case there's a cronjob involved.
Just going through my old (and new) hubs and thought I'd mention:
1] Hubtrailtravelguide.com is now sedo parked.
2] Hubtraveler.wikispaces.com/ no longer exists
3] Hubable no longer exists
4] http://hubtrailtraveler.weebly.com/ exists.
So you might like to revisit this hub and update ... stuffs.
:)
I came across this by accident and see the comments are from a year old and older--is this program still in effect? I've got a bunch of place Hubs I'm planning to write which would fit hubtrails.
A big thank you to all you wonderful people who has made this possible. Thank you very much. Voted up. Awesome, useful, interesting and a beautiful act of genorosity, kindness from the heart. Once again fantabulous job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ohma
Great idea, well proposed. Thanks

Ohma you are doing a great job with this. I have had fun creating hubs for the project. Thanks for the inspiration.
