Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania and more specifically South Eastern Pennsylvania is my little corner of the world. Pennsylvania encompasses a wildly diverse group of cultures across the state.

From the Amish rural living communities to the never sleeping cities there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Pennsylvania History

Pennsylvania was first settled in the year 1682. The name Pennsylvania translated means "Penns Woods" named for our founding father "William Penn"

On Dec. 12, 1787 George Clymer, Benjamin Franklin, Robert Morris, John Morton, Benjamin Rush, George Ross, James Smith, James Wilson, and George Taylor, signed the "Declaration of Independence" Thereby being The second state to join the United States.

The "Declaration of Independence" was written at Independence Hall in Philadelphia Pa., and York Pa was the first Capital of the new nation.

Steeped in history, rich in culture, From the strength of "Independence Hall" to the rolling hills of the "Gettysburg Battlefield" Pennsylvania helped to shape our great nation.

Motto: Virtue, liberty, and independence

State symbols:

flower-mountain laurel tree-hemlock

bird-ruffed grouse dog-Great Dane

colors-blue and gold song-“Pennsylvania”

Nickname: Keystone State

Geography Of Pennsylvania

With 67 counties covering 44,817 sq miles, Pa. is the 33rd largest state in the U.S. Staying true to the culture of "Penn's" Woods" the state owns over 2mil. acres of preserved forest land and 116 State Parks.

The best recognized name in Pa "Hershey"

Harrisburg

While Hershey is easily the most recognized name in Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, Our State Capitol lies about 10 miles west of "Chocolate Town"

Harrisburg like many other great places to visit in Pa. are may be dwarfed by the American Icon Hershey but if you are planning to visit the area I have some suggestions of things to do and sights to see in and around South Eastern Pa.

What To Do in Pennsylvania is an article highlighting some lesser known attractions around Harrisburg\Hershey and What to do in Gettysburg Pennsylvania features similar attractions around the Gettysburg Battlefield.

I will be adding other Pa. articles as I finish them but for now enjoy the rest of our virtual World tour through

The Declaration of Independence was written and signed at Independence Hall in the great city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, whereas the Valley Forge National Historical Park (about 25 miles west of Philadelphia) was the camp site for General George Washington and his troops during a severe winter of the Revolutionary War. I did enjoy your artical. Best Wishes !

Nice work Ohma, brings me back many years ago when I lived in Pa. There's a small town there maybe you know about it? Stillwater Pa. country setting and lots of cow farms.
