Illegal Immigration in The United States
62Illegal Immigration
There is an awful lot of hoopla going on right now about immigration into the United States. Most of the buzz was created when Arizona passed their new Immigration law on Friday april 23rd of 2010. Despite harsh words from the White House and President Obama, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed the bill that created the nations harshest immigration mandates to date.
Essentially the new immigration law in Arizona requires that all immigrants are required to carry immigration documents and provide said documents to the authorities upon request. The law also empowers law enforcement personal to detain persons suspected of being in the U.S. illegally until such documentation can be provided.
Illegal Immigration and The U.S. Economy
The practice of turning a blind eye to the issues of illegal immigration in this country is doing more damage than good for our troubled economy.
I have heard it said that the flow of illegals into the United States provides a steady supply of labor for many industries that U.S. citizens will not do. I believe this to be a sad and dangerous assumption on the part of the U.S. Government. Sad because it clearly shows how little our elected officials think of the citizens they are representing, and dangerous because it provides the basis for these officials to continue to turn a blind eye to the very real problems created by illegal immigrants taking jobs that should rightfully be given to U.S. citizens.
I also believe that our economy does not in any way benefit from the thousands of illegal immigrants who come to the U.S. seeking U.S. dollars to send back to their families outside of our borders. This money that is being gained illegally is not being used to purchase U.S. products and services, it is not circulating through U.S. businesses, and it is in no way being used to boost our economy.
Arizona New Immigration Law. Is it Legal?
Arizona's new immigration law is being challenged as unconstitutional because it impinges on the federal government's authority to police the nation's borders. One could easily argue that since the Federal Government has failed to defend the borders of the U.S. that the states whose borders these are should be allowed to defend them as they see fit.
There has also been arguments made that by granting local law enforcement agencies the power to detain suspected illegal immigrants it opens the doors for excessive harassment and mistreatment of all persons of Latino descent.
While there is certainly the possibility for this kind of abuse I prefer to believe that the men and women of the Arizona Law Enforcement Agencies who stood before their families, friends and neighbors and spook these words;
"I solemnly swear that I will support the constitution of the United States and the constitution of the state of Arizona, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same, and defend them against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and that I will faithfully and impartially discharge the duties of a peace officer to the best of my ability, so help me God.
While We Breathe, Let Justice Be Done"
will not fail to do as they have sworn "to uphold the law faithfully and impartially."
Federal Immigration Laws
To date the federal immigration laws have been hopelessly inadequate in stemming the flow of illegal immigrants into The United States. There unwillingness or inability to enforce their own immigration laws is what has led to Arizona taking such drastic measures. The Governor of Arizona should not be condemned for taking the responsibility to provide protection for the people of that state.
United States Citizens are required to adhere to the laws of the federal government and are subjected to prosecution for failure to abide.
Why should any other nations citizens be held less accountable?
Should Arizona repeal their new immigration law

Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.
'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language.. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.'
Theodore Roosevelt 1907
Every American citizen needs to read this!
We shall walk lightly and carry a big stick...............
Great hub Ohma. The immigration issue will be a top news story for a long time. I'm afraid that politicians will use this issue to further their own agendas and ambitions rather than really work out a viable solution.
Great Hub. Americans living in fear and doing what they see as necissary to protect themselves can not be unconstitutional. It was voted for by the citizens and it should stand.
Illegal immigration is nothing new, but does that mean it isn't a problem? Illegal immigration has always been a problem, why all the commotion about it now?
My answers: Illegal immigration is an illegal act of breaking national law and security that has gotten out of hand. We no longer have time to wait for someone else to resolve the issue.
Great hub.
Immigration is problematic in so many countries. The UK has problems
Give you an example of our hypocrite president; today I heard that the federal law is actually worse than the Arizona law! The federal law says that police need no reason to stop someone and ask them for legal papers. This is just another example of how horrible this administration is.

Take note that Illegal Immigration is nowhere noted in the Arizona Immigration Law SB1070. The bill states '' unauthorized aliens '' and since the Governor Brewer signed the bill on 4/23/10, the bill has been amended to incorporate some important revisions.
The Arizona Republic Newspaper printed in the Viewpoints section ''deciphering SB1070‘’, dated 5/23/10 the complete updated bill. They commented '' the better informed everyone is about the law, the more informed the debate will be‘’.
illegals are illegals, just the same.whether they help boost the economy,or they ruin the peace of the community, they are still illegals.but considering the many laws written in answer to the illegal immigrants,im wondering why there are still a steady supply of immigrants everywhere.i think,it's better that instead of pruning the branches,we need to uproot the roots that support it..
Illegal immigration is surely a headache as it affects the rest of the legal immigrant population in so many ways.In spite of so many laws that have been introduced to control this issue, it is one of the longstanding unresolved problems of the US. May be when people decide to stay back in their own countries and work for its betterment, this problem will come to an end.

What a great article. I couldn't agree with you more. If the Federal government doesn't have gonads to do something about it someone needs to step up and do something.
