Jeff Foxworthy the comedian known best for the phrase "You might be a Redneck" once said "If you own a complete set of salad bowls, and they all say "Cool Whip" on the side, You might be a redneck: I could relate.

A number of years ago, back when the kids where small and money was tight most of the dinnerware in my home was of the recycled variety. Cast offs, hand-me-downs and yes the occasional "Cool Whip" bowl found their way to my dinner table. Ordinarily this did not bother me over much but once a year when the entire family, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. would flock to my house for Christmas Dinner I longed to be able to set an elegant Christmas table, or at least one where all the plates matched.

Since I lived in York Pennsylvania, there really was only one obvious solution, Pfaltzgraff.

Pfaltzgraff an American Company

The Pfaltzgraff family immigrated to the United States in the early 1800's. They set up a small family owned and operated pottery in York County Pennsylvania in 1811. The early work of the Pfaltzgraff pottery was primarily the manufacturing of ceramic jugs, crocks and flower pots. The earliest Pfaltzgraff market was defined to be "as far as you can get with a horse and a wagon and then get back home the same day."

The Pfaltzgraff Company has grown and made a lot of changes over the years, expanding both their manufacturing focus and their customer base. From dinnerware to linens and bake-ware to flatware, Pfaltzgraff has it all. In spite of the growth and expansion Pfaltzgraff is still located in York Pennsylvania, The town where they first set up shop.

Besides my mother's wedding china she has never owned a place setting that wasn't Pfaltzgraff. Lucky for me, her old setting head my way when she's ready to bring in something new! It's been awhile; I may just print this out for her......... give her the old urge to go shopping. Thanks for this! Kaie

Growing up we always hit up the Pfaltzgraff tent sale. I was lucky enough to be preparing my own home when they closed up the outlets so at least I got some deals out of that. Every year at Christmas we have to labor through the task of pulling out my mom's extensive Winterberry collection! I used to buy her a new piece every year but I noticed this year that it just doesn't look the same so that tradition has ended!
