U.S.A. Say Thank-You

I have heard and read a lot of opinions lately with regard to The U.S. Military and I am ashamed to say that most of what is being said is not very complimentary.  I am ashamed because I live in a country where a soldiers personal sacrifice means so little to so many. I understand that the most basic thing these men and women fight and die to protect is free speech and I do not mean to take that away from any one but the truth of the matter is verbally condemning the U.S. military is kind of like an alcoholic saying he can’t stand drunks.

It is simply put, a ridicules contradiction to say we are proud to live in a country where we have freedom but we despise the means it uses to maintain that  freedom.

I am a free citizen of the United States of America, and I am proud that so many of our young men and women are so willing to put their lives on hold to defend that freedom.

The War in Iraq

The war in Iraq is certainly taking a toll on this nation, and it is difficult for some to understand why the U.S. military is even there.

Well first of all let me start by saying that I understand that my opinion may not be a popular one but it is one I feel needs to be heard at every opportunity.

I would like to remind every one that the  war in Iraq is a joint effort by the member countries of the United Nations and that 21 countries besides the United States have or had military forces in Iraq. I could also remind everyone that Sadam Hussein’s actions prior to this war were criminal and that he is the one that forced the U.N. to take such drastic action.

Hind sight is 20/20 and now we know that most of the things he said or implied were just bluffs BUT we did not know that then. For twelve years the world battled with this would be terrorist at the political and legal level. For twelve years the world made every kind of attempt possible to come to a peaceful resolution. For twelve years he stonewalled the U.N. investigator and ignored one sanction after another placed on him by the U.N. and the U.N. went to war.

I for one am glad they did.

I am glad because I have not forgotten that this man used his own nations children as human shields by hiding what contraband was found in schools and hospitals.

I am glad that The U.N. took a stand and let the world know that they are a force to be reckoned with and that they are willing to back up what they say.

I am glad because 62 percent of Iraqis voted in the March 7 2010 parliamentary election.

The war in Iraq is a war for freedom. It is a war to protect the freedom of every person in every country in the world.

United States Military

The United States is not some rogue nation going around imposing it’s will on the world at large. Our military efforts in Iraq is part of a U.N. sanctioned military action to protect the world from a terrorist, plain and simple.

Our young men and women fighting in Iraq are fighting for your freedom. The United States Military does not target civilians. It is a sad but true fact that civilians get hurt or are killed in war, that does not make our military murderers.

During the course of daily life these soldiers find themselves in a kill or be killed situation. It is shameful to even suggest that they should not shoot until shot at. They live, eat, sleep, and work everyday in a war zone where hesitating could cost the lives of themselves as well as many of their companions. They do not deserve the disrespect shown by many in the country.

They deserve our thanks, our praise, and our support.

Very good Hub. And needed.

I appreciate your perspective & attitude here. We live in freedom because of the sacrifice of others.

We even have the freedom to criticize those who make the sacrifice, which is strange indeed. BUT, it costs us nothing to sincerely say, "Thank you for your service."

Ken, I think that people should be able to put the politics aside and just appreciate what our military does and what it stands for but I guess that is just wishful thinking.

Thank you to the U.S. Military! Ohma, you did them honor here!

These are the men and women who have VOLUNTEERED to serve their country, OUR country, and they deserve respect for the services they perform for all of the rest of us, who correct me if I'm wrong, enjoy the freedoms that living in the United States affords us.

It seems as if people are always ready to criticize, and yet again, so unwilling to simply say thank you.

I have no criticisms, and I do say thank you to each and every one of them........... past and present.

The wars this country are involved in are hard to forget as we are reminded of their presence and situation daily, but to my shame I forget to think and pray for the thousands of individuals that are soldiers and make up the armies of men fighting for so many different reasons. Thanks for the reminder, Ohma!

This was really good to read. You wrote this objectively which is hard to do when you are so close to the heart of the matter. I agree with everything you said.

My brother served in the military -- for awhile as a jet fighter pilot. My nephew has now signed on, too.

And I am glad you wrote this. I have even heard calls to dismantle the military, and can not understand why they see it as they do. Odd, they want the 38th paralell protected still, so Japan is protected, but the Middle East needs to be left alone to deal with itself. Freedom always comes with a cost, unfortunately. But we gladly serve. The result, is wirth the price to us. Peace. Beautifully written. Thank you.

TRIBUTE TO OUR MILITARY

WHEN FRANCIS SCOTT KEY PENNED THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER IN 1814, GREAT BRITAIN HAD DECIDED TO TRY TO CONQUER THE FLEDGING COUNTRY THAT HAD EMBARRASSED IT SOME 29 YEARS EARLIER BY WINNING A WAR AGAINST THE STRONGEST COUNTRY ON EARTH AT THE TIME, THE COUNTRY THAT THE SUN NEVER SET ON. HE DIDN’T KNOW IF AMERICA WOULD EVEN WIN THAT WAR, MUCH LESS STAND THE TEST OF TIME. I HAVE NEVER READ IF HE ENDED THE WORDS IN

THE FINAL SENTENCE AS A QUESTION, DUE TO HIS UNCERTANTITY OR MAYBE EVEN AS A CHALLENGE TO FUTURE GENERATIONS IF THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO KEEP THE RED, WHITE AND BLUE WAVING OVER THE LAND. NOW 165 YEARS AFTER HIS DEATH THAT FLAG STILL WAVES.

ONE THING FOR SURE, WHEN THE LAST AMERICAN WITH THE COURAGE TO RISK THEIR LIFE FOR THIS COUNTRY IN OUR MILITARY, A NEW FLAG WILL DEFINETLY FLY ON THE FLAGPOLES OF THIS LAND. ALL YEAR LONG, ALL YEAR LONG WE SHOULD SHOW SPECIAL GRATITUDE TO OUR MILITARY FAMILIES WHO SACRIFICE SO MUCH FOR OUR FREEDOM.

PLEASE FORGIVE MY ARROGANCE TO WRITE TWO NEW VERSES TO THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER, BUT IT IS SO DONE TO SAY THANK YOU TO OUR MILITARY AND TO HELP BOOST PATRIOTISM AT A TIME OF DIFFICULTY IN OUR COUNTRY.

STAR SPANGLED BANNER

TO ANSWER THE FINAL LINE “DOES THAT BANNER YET WAVE?”

OH SAY CAN YOU SEE ACROSS OUR FAIR LAND

MONUMENTS HALLOWING FIELDS WHERE THEY STAND

OVER HILL AND DALE COUNTLESS ROW AFTER ROW,

PATRIOTS IN DEFENSE OF OUR RIGHTS DID THEIRS FOREGO.

SACRED STONES EACH STAND TRIBUTE TO THE LIFE OF ONE,

WHO HONORABLY KEPT THE TRUST PASSED FATHER TO SON,

TO ASSURE THAT THE BANNER WOULD FOREVER WAVE,

O’ER THE LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE.

FROM THE FOUNDERS DECLARATION IN FREEDOM’S HALL,

TO THE SONS OF FOREFATHERS STILL ANSWERING THE CALL.

TO PRESERVE OUR FREEDOM, GALLANT HEROES ARE LOST.

DEVOTED TO THE STARS & STRIPES, WILLING TO SUFFER THE COST

LEST WE FORGET THE SAME FLAG THAT MAJESTICALLY WAVES

OVER OUR FREEDOM, SOLEMNLY DRAPES OVER THEIR GRAVES.

FOR THE PRICE OUR FINEST HAVE PAID, THE BANNER DOTH YET WAVE

O’ER THE LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE.

i loved this post and thought you did a great job of defending the awesome soliders that fight for us every day. Not everyone may agree with the war but I think everyone should appreciate the daily sacrifice these guys go through and all that they give up.
