The Sand Box
52The Sand Box
Unbridled creativity springs forth from the depths of a child's mind the minute you sit them in the sand. A sea of possibility opens before them as they dig their little fingers into the warmth of the surface. You can just see the ideas ticking away behind that far away look in their eyes. The slightest glimpse of a smile as their fingers reach the cool depths that have been hidden from the sun.
The Sandbox is the first great place that all kids have to express themselves. Creativity is born in the sand box. The imagination of a child has no boundaries, and where we as adults might see a pile of sand with a twig stuck in it the builder sees a great and glorious castle where he can fight off the enemy from it's high parapets. In this place he created glory and honor are his for the taking.
There are many things in our lives that are very similar to the sandboxes we played in as children.
School is a sand box
We all hated school right? I know I did. I hated the structure. I hated the piles of work whose purpose always seemed to elude me. I never understood the reasons for needing to know algebra or Geography. looking back now I do get it. It was not so much about the content of what we were learning it was more about learning to learn.
School teaches us to open our minds and be willing to allow thoughts or ideas that may seem strange to enter. School allows us to learn who we are as people and teaches us to explore new ideas. School builds character.
Work is a sandbox
The excitement of a new job or promotion. learning again. Exploring and creating a path for ourselves.
Building a career is a lot like building a sand castle. It takes time and patients and creativity. If you had not learned these things in school you would not have the tools you need to build your career.
Marriage is a sandbox
Marriage the joining of two people. Here if nowhere all the creativity you have is required. Sharing your heart and mind and soul with another and finding a way to co exist with someone who has never played in your sandbox can be challenging but if you take your time and sculpt it just right the rewards are timeless.
Raising Kids is a Sandbox
Kids do not come with instructions. there Is no how to guide. Creativity and patience are the best tools you will have ever acquired to meet the challenges of raising children.
Life is a Sandbox
Live play create design sculpt enjoy!
Do not miss out!

Great hub, Ohma! I feel for the guys who never played in a sand box. They seem to be fatally ill-prepared. Guess it's no time like the present to go back and start over. :)
Hey Ohma, you did a wonderful job for only having 30 minutes to do it. A great topic for the challenge too. Thank you so much for taking part. It's worthy of a rate up and an AWESOME feedback too. Excellent work. :)
I think this is great, especially considering it only took 30 minutes to write! Well done!
Have I missed the meaning of this hub ?
Wow, caught this in the forums. All in 30 minutes, you did a great job.
Wow that's really cool for 30 minutes, take a pat on the back young lady ; )
You made some very good analogies...I enjoyed the read. Thanks for sharing! WB
i enjoyed the read! especially the ending..it's cute :D
oh, TattoGuy you're joking aren't you? :) well, from what i caught, the hub basically trying to say the similar essential of school and sandbox as media of learning.. like what Wayne Brown said above, analogies.
You guys please have a good day!
I hated the structure of school, something just felt unnatural ever since kindergarten, about children being crammed into this small square building and 'learning to learn'.
....a good way to program is within a sandbox, so the application doesn't have access to the system it's self. Makes it much harder for viruses, trojans, etc.
But besides that, this is a wonderful article! And--great job in the Amazon capsule!
